A journey through the decades with LP And The Vinyl

SEELEY LAKE – With vinyl records suspended from the ceiling and hung as a backdrop, the intimate club atmosphere Sunday afternoon set the stage for LP and The Vinyl 2 Valleys Stage concert in the Seeley Lake Community Hall. The four San Diego-based musicians took the audience on a journey through the decades offering arrangements from favorite artists including the Beatles and Stevie Wonder, jazz standards and original compositions.

As they sipped on their beverage of choice and enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and goodies provided by Alpine Artisans, Inc. members, attendees enjoyed LP And The Vinyl's fresh and funky jazz and blues feel adapted to several time-honored traditions. Between songs, singer Leonard Patton drew the audience in with his stories and humor. When reliving part of the 1980s, Patton sparked the memory of those old enough to remember the creation of the mixed tape.

"The mixed tape was how we expressed ourselves. You would spend hours by the radio recording songs," Patton said. "It is not like Spotify when in one minute you have a 100 song playlist...no it was hours, days, sometimes weeks because if you were making a tape of slow songs, you had to wait for those songs to come on. When you gave someone a mixed tape, they automatically knew the effort you went through to make that mixed tape."

While many of the titles were familiar, LP And The Vinyl reimagined time-honored traditional songs adding their own twists and feel that left those in the room tapping their toes and applauding for more.

In addition to the March 27 concert, LP And The Vinyl offered informances at the local schools on Monday and Tuesday. 2VS will host Bridge and Wolak, the final concert of the 2021-2022 Season, on Thursday, April 28 at 7 p.m. at the Swan Valley Community Hall.
