Building community one story at a time

The second happening of telling our stories, “Why Did We Come Here, Why Do We Stay” is just around the corner on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. in the Community Foundation Building. Please join with us if you are able. Masks will be available. If you are not able, the Pathfinder is again allowing this Community event to be seen live on their Facebook page. In excess of 200 folks watched the full Oct. 13 gathering and we would love to have you join.

Our October event had a good cross-section of our community telling their stories. What is clear is the reasons each of us came to the Seeley Lake region are as different as the stories we tell. Though each story is unique, I suspect there likely is a common thread that runs through most stories as to why “this” place draws us in. I could be wrong but my sense is that why we then stay in this valley is tied to the place and the people. Our common sense of place and people is the foundation of our community.

It is the hope that our stories enable us to better know, better understand and better appreciate why this valley and its people have drawn us to it and are so important to why we stay. The values that are common to us all and why we have decided to call it home. Each of our personal stories, if told, and if we truly listen, allow us to be better acquainted. They add our individual threads to the fabric of this valley and can become the glue of a community.

Please join us and listen to stories from Betti Orr, Rachelle Harman, Rob Shaffer, Tom Beers, Jenny Rohrer and Will Kats. It is fun, it is entertaining and it is educational. You will meet new folks with a common interest that otherwise may not have been in your particular circle. Let’s build community. Your story is important.

If you are willing to share your story at a future event, please join us. Contact Tom Beers, 406-546-6400 (leave a message) or email me at beersplacid@gmail.com. Write in the subject “story telling” and I will get back to you.
