Seeley-Swan faces Trojans and Eagles

The Lady Blackhawks and Blackhawks had a pair of games last week taking on the Drummond Trojans on the road Jan. 7 and then hosting the Eagles of Valley Christian Jan. 8. The Lady Blackhawks were victorious over both teams extending their winning streak to eight games. The Boys fought hard but fell to both.

Drummond gave the Lady Blackhawks the stiffest competition so far this season. The Lady Blackhawks led by just 5 points at the half but then had a solid third quarter adding 11 points to their lead. Drummond took a run at them in the final frame but the Lady Blackhawks held on for a 50-41 victory.

Sariah Maughan scored 15 points including a pair of three-pointers to lead the Lady Blackhawks. Dani Sexton was close behind with 11 points followed by Emily Maughan with 9.

Like most teams that have faced the Lady Blackhawks this season, the Eagles put up very little fight. The Lady Blackhawks outscored them 22-6 and 28-6 in the first two quarters finished them off 61-25.

This time it would be E. Maughan on top of the scoring with 16 points followed by 8 points each from Kyla Conley, Tegan Mauldin and S. Maughan.

Drummond's Boys put the Blackhawks down 10 points in the first quarter. The Blackhawks put up a good fight the rest of the game but they could never close the gap falling 55-65.

Walker McDonald led the Blackhawks effort with 18 points from 6 two-pointers, 1 three-pointer and 3 free throws. Chase Haines also scored into the double digits with 12 points followed by Ben Haley with 9 and Klayton Kovatch with 8 points. Jason James and Owen Hoag rounded out the points with 4 each.

Back on the home court the Blackhawks fell behind the Eagles in the first half facing a 13-point deficit going into the second half. They nearly matched the Eagles in the third quarter and outscored them 15-9 in the final frame but could not pull off a victory. The final score was 51-60.

James led the Blackhawks against the Eagles putting in 7 two-pointers, 1 three-pointer and a free throw for 18 points. McDonald had 5 baskets and 4 free throws for 14 points.
