"People have realized that live music is so special after this long COVID pandemic. Music brings people together and Celtic music in particular is so joyful and uplifting!" stated Greta Gothard, the oldest of the three sisters that comprise The Gothard Sisters trio. Alpine Artisans' 2 Valleys Stage is bringing The Gothard Sisters to our valleys, beginning with a Holiday Concert at Seeley-Swan High School on Sunday, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available at the door.
The Gothard Sisters – Greta, Willow and Solana, all started playing the violin at an early age. Although their parents are not musicians, when Greta heard violin at a concert at age five and asked for violin lessons, they were supportive. Then her sisters followed.
Another milestone was when they saw "Riverdance" and fell in love with Celtic music.
"Celtic music is so much fun. Don't be surprised if we bring out our clogs during the concert!" warned Greta. All three sisters play violin, and continue to add additional Celtic instruments to their performances, including the bodhran, a shallow Irish drum made out of goat skin, the mandolin, djembe and whistles.
The Gothard Sisters play a variety of traditional Celtic music and also write their own original music in a Celtic style.
"We've been performing professionally together for 12 years and we love spending time together as a family. We enjoy doing our music," stated Greta.
The Gothard Sisters have performed in venues across the United States, including a concert at the Kennedy Center's Millennium stage in Washington DC, performances with Disney Cruise line in Europe and a 20-city concert tour of Japan in 2019. Writing and recording near their home in the Pacific Northwest, the band has released eight albums and has performed over 1,000 live shows over the course of their career.
The concert tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and free for students under 18. Following the concert, The Gothard Sisters will be performing and conducting workshops in Swan Valley School, Seeley Lake Elementary, Seeley-Swan High School and the Potomac School. These workshops will familiarize local students with the origins of Celtic music and the instruments used in their performances.
Artist/Instructor Kris Gullikson of Uncorked and Creative Painting Classes will be the featured "Artist in the Lobby" with works for sale for your holiday shopping. 2 Valleys Stage concerts and school residencies are supported by ticket sales, individual donations and grants from The Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation, the Western Arts Foundation and the Seeley Lake Community Foundation.
