Swan Valley crafters display their wares

SWAN VALLEY – For the second year, COVID dictated the cancellation of the Upper Swan Valley Historical Society's Annual Frostbite Festival and for the second year a group of crafters opted to rent the Swan Valley Community Hall to display and sell their wares. Many of their items were targeted for Christmas, either as decorations or potential gifts.

Browsers and buyers wandered amid a colorful and varied mix of crafts. Some of the artists were old timers. Dar Kearney has been setting out a wide variety of homemade items for the past 35 years. Dixie Parker has been displaying potholder sets, casserole carriers, Christmas stockings and other sewing crafts for 16 years. She donates her proceeds to children in need.

In contrast to the old-timers, this was Chantel Thornsberry's first attempt at selling her quilts, fabric baskets, rice bag heat or cold packs and reusable cloth gift sacks that replace paper wrapping.

Adding further variety to the offerings, Cole Henrekin displayed CNC plasma art coasters and magnets in the shapes of the state of Montana, fish and other animals. His sister Jessica Lehl displayed the warm winter hats she had knitted or sewn and the Bernt family offered beeswax candles and Christmas wreaths.

A hearty bowl of chili was available for those seeking refreshments.
