MISSOULA – The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks took to the course for a final race with the full team at the State meet Oct. 23 in Missoula. Head Coach Shawn Holmes said the cross country team had a good state meet and the boys came really close to setting personal bests.
Sophomore Conner Chadwick led the Blackhawks finishing in 22:33.57 for 63rd place. Holmes said this was his best time on the University of Montana Golf Course.
Senior Hunter Coyle was running great until he got a bad cramp in the second mile. Holmes said he battled through it and finished with a time of 24:17.62 for 84th place.
Sophomore Tyler Neher missed his personal record by only 13 seconds. Holmes said he ran a very good race despite not being able to practice for a couple of weeks and just getting back into it the week before State. He finished in 26:51.77 for 99th place.
Holmes said Wesley Stevenson ran great even though he didn't get to run the course on Sept. 18 at the Mountain West so he was a little nervous. He finished in 30:00.34 in 111th place.
"He did the best he could," Holmes said.
For the Ladies, junior Kyla Conley ran solo. Her last race was Sept. 23 in Thompson Falls. Holmes said she has been hurt and sick the last couple of weeks and was only at three days of practice in the last three weeks. While this was her slowest race of the season finishing in 25:02.7, she still finished in the top half placing 39th.
"Overall I was very pleased with the success and work ethic of all our runners," Holmes said. "They were a great group to be with each and every day."
