Blackhawks off and running

DEER LODGE: The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks Cross Country team took to the course in Deer Lodge for the Grant-Kohrs Ranch Run Saturday, Aug. 28. Head Coach Shawn Holmes said the three boys all did very well for their first race of the season. The sole Lady Blackhawk Kyla Conley did not attend.

Senior Hunter Coyle led the Blackhawks with a time of 25:12.2. He placed 25th in the 5,000-meter varsity race, his first cross country meet as a Blackhawk. Close on his heels, returning sophomore Conner Chadwick ran a 25:34.6 for 26th. And newcomer to the team Tyler Neher placed 31st with a time of 30:26.1. Since they do not have five runners, they did not place as a team.

"This was Tyler's first ever race. He ran very well," Holmes wrote in an email. "Conner and Hunter ran great races."

The team will head to Missoula Sept. 2 for the Coaches Invite. The first race will start at 4 p.m. at the Westside Little League Fields located at the corner of Spurgin Road and Tower Street in Missoula.
