Renewed friendships

Out 'N The Woods Again

Here a while back I was talk'n to Paul Ossowski. Hadn't talked to him in over 20 years. He's over in Eastern Montana now. Has a good job in an oil field. You all may not remember him, he's the one I sold that black mustang to named Shadow, he had a dry freeze brand on his hip 9360.

Paul worked, at that time, I believe for the Heart Bar Heart Ranch out of Ovando. He remembered the time right after he got 9360 how the horse got away from him there in the yard where he lived. Followed Shadow around try'n to get a hold of the halter rope--wasn't gett'n it. And 9360 was not addicted to grain!

Paul got to think'n how the horse loved watermelon. Ah-ha! He happened to have some in the fridge (old Indian trick). He went and got Pal, another mustang he had, very gentle horse. There they sat, Paul and Pal eat'n the melon. Paul put extra loud smacks so the affect would have the most impact on 9360.

Shadow was no dummy, he hadn't survived on that high desert in Wyoming by be'n stupid. Here he came to join in the feast.

Some years later on another ranch, the owners had company from N.J. and among them a gal who was into horses. She thought a ride on 9360 would be nice. And so it was. One ride and she was hooked. Paul must sell her this horse.

It got so he had a hard time try'n to avoid her. They wouldn't take no fer an answer. He finally relented and the famous 9360 went to N.J.

And then lo and behold Carl and Lois Eckstedt stopped by the other day for a visit. Hadn't seen them in years either. Sett'n out on the deck we did our best to fix some of the problems that bunch back along the foggy bottoms of the Potomac has gotten the country into. But soon gave it up 'cause to many politicians have no common sense.

So we remembered our times into the hills and liv'n there in the Valley. Carl had a way of interjecting something comical into our remembering. And Lois and Geraldine's infective laughter made such a memorable visit. Carl remembered Jack dog at our place, whenever they came, Jack kept try'n to heel Carl. It was funny. Hav'n nabors like Carl and Lois was such a blessing.
