Seeley-Swan Class Reunion (History & Invitation)

I decided we needed to have a class reunion (1963-1974) to honor students that did or did not graduate, because of the long bus ride. Remember the long fight Seeley Lake and surrounding communities had and they made trips to our capital in Helena to get a high school built in Seeley Lake? Every year students wrote letters to the Helena Legislators. I remember standing on the balcony in the capitol building, looking down on the senators. Lots of people showed up!!

Sometimes we take things for granted and we all need to know how lucky we are to have a High School and not have to ride a bus to Missoula.

For instance, looking back at my freshman year on the bus (6 a.m.) Terresa Lee, Christy Christensen and I always chose the back seat on the bus. This one cold morning made us decide to move up front behind the bus driver (Mac’s son Pete McCormick) and his wonderful heaters! Just as we sat down, a logging truck hit us in the back of the bus!! The roads were icy on the Dog Town Road by the Pothole Lake. It was a miracle that the three of us are still here to tell the story.

I am sure that in all the years the bus traveled to Missoula, students can tell you many stories and I am looking forward to hearing those at the Reunion. Going to Missoula, we would count up to 300 deer!!

When the school was finally being built in 1964, we were split between the high school in the morning and grade school in the afternoon. We voted on the High School name, team names and colors - voted for our cheerleaders, class presidents, secretary, etc. What an exciting time!!

I would like to honor all the new teachers and Principal Kim Haines for their excellent organizing and setting us up in our new school that we loved!! Also, all the coaches, janitors and, oh yes, the cooks!! It would be so great if you all could come and party with us!! Especially the poor students that had to go to Missoula to graduate but lived in Seeley.

Please join us and pass the news about the Reunion at the Community Hall on Sept. 25 starting at 12 p.m. It is $10/person (CASH ONLY) and pictures $5 (CASH ONLY).

Supper will be provided at 5 p.m. (including gluten free). Bring your favorite drinks (please no alcohol on the property or smoking in the building). Servers will be masked and wear gloves. We will keep everyone as safe as we can!! Door prizes, games, tables for cards, etc. Maybe dancing 8-10 p.m.? There will also be a corkboard up to put the names of those that have passed. We shall not forget them!!!

RSVP required. For more information call organizers Sandi 406-493-2635, Jim and Connie 406-677-2617 or Mickie 208-935-8475.

Can’t wait to see ya!
