Fireworks reminders this Fourth

The public is reminded that fireworks are prohibited on state and federal lands as well as on the Double Arrow Ranch. Shooting off fireworks is also not allowed in designated forested lands, land within one air mile of forests as defined by the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation.

Even though the Fire Danger is Moderate as of Monday, June 28, with the expected heat wave, fuels will be drying out. Sparks from fireworks can cause a fire and spread quickly if there is wind in the grass, dry needles can ignite trees if shot into the crown. If fireworks start a wildland or structure fire, the person who lit it can be held liable.

Finally, pet owners should take extra caution to keep their pets safe while celebrating. More pets get lost on the Fourth of July than other day of the year. Make sure a dog has a collar with up-to-date contact information on the tag, is leashed when walking and take a current photo just in case they get lost.
