Seeley-Swan takes second

GREAT FALLS - The Boys and Girls of Seeley-Swan took second place behind Fort Benton at the Fairfield Belt Invite May 1. More than 20 Class C teams attended the meet along with 10 Class B teams and one Class A team.

The Seeley-Swan Boys earned 59 points to tie with Wolf Point while Fort Benton took first with 89 points.

Walker McDonald led the Boys in points, taking first place in both the Shot Put and Discus with school record throws of 50 feet 10 inches and 163 feet 10 inches. Eric Lorentz earned fourth place in the Shot Put while Klayton Kovatch took fourth in the Discus.

On the track, Owen Hoag took first in the 400-meter with a time of 50.69 and second in the 200-meter finishing in 23.67. Sawyer Shelmerdine took second in the 800-meter and sixth in the 1,600-meter finishing in 2:07.83 and 4:58.56 respectively. Both of Shelmerdine’s times were personal records.

The Boys’ 4x100-meter relay team took fourth with a time of 46.36.

The Seeley-Swan Girls earned 70 points for second place behind Fort Benton with 74 points.

Klaire Kovatch took first place in Discus throwing 133 feet 1.5 inches and first place in the Shot Put. Klaire’s shot throw of 36 feet 4.25 inches was her first competition throw in her high school career and qualified her for State. Klaire also took fourth in the 200-meter.

Sariah Maughan took first place in the 400-meter with a time of 59.34 and second place in the 800-meter coming in with a new personal record of 2:19.96. Sariah’s 800-meter time is just three seconds off the current school record.

Emily Maughan took third in the 100-meter with a time of 13.90 while Kyla Conley took fifth in the 3200-meter finishing in 13:41.34, a new personal record.

Both the Girls’ 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams took first place finishing in 51.65 and 4:13.66.

This week Seeley-Swan competed in the A-B-C Top Ten meet in Frenchtown May 4 and then wraps up the regular season at the KLH Memorial in Missoula May 8.
