SWAN VALLEY - Area residents got into the Easter spirit a day early as they participated in the community's annual Easter Egg Hunt, Saturday, April 3 in the Condon Community Ball Field.
The event allowed participants of all ages to get involved in the search of 3,000 eggs. Hunts were separated into three sections: 0-5, 6-20 and 21+.
Outside of the expected candy, some of the eggs in the 21+ group contained drink tickets while eggs in the younger categories offered chances to win trinkets, toys and brownies.
Each segment also had a golden egg which offered the opportunity to win $50 in a drawing. This year's winner was 11-year-old Milo McCall
Edward and Heidi Klassen have organized the event for the past three years. Edward did not have an exact count but he believes that the crowd was twice the size of last year's. He said the event felt like it went faster this year because they had many more participants while having the same number of eggs.
Edward said they spent about a month preparing for the event, including washing the eggs and assorting the goodies.
According to him the idea of an adult egg hunt came from Jesse Arno who suggested the idea a while back.
"Arno says, 'Well, we could do beers and hide beers and stuff,' but you know what? We can do better than that," Edward said.
He said they hold the event on Saturday instead of Easter Sunday to give residents time to attend church and spend time with family.
"The main reason for this is so people remember Jesus," Edward said. "We make sure we do an invocation and The Pledge of Allegiance. [If we did it on Sunday] that would kind of [divert] from the system."
