Seeley Lake Community Council seeks applicants for vacant term

MISSOULA - The Missoula County commissioners are accepting applications for one vacant term on the Seeley Lake Community Council. The term runs through May 31, 2021. Because the remainder of the vacant term is so short and election filing deadlines have passed, the appointed member’s term will automatically renew to a new three-year term. If the commissioner-appointed member would like to continue serving beyond May 31, 2024, they must file as a candidate in the 2024 school/special district election.

Applications are available online at https://boards.missoulacounty.us/apply/. The application deadline is 3 p.m. Friday, April 2.

Soft road conditions prompt temporary closures and restrictions

Swan Valley - Warm weather, snow melt and spring rains are creating soft road surfaces and spring “break up” conditions on many Flathead National Forest roads. To provide for safe transportation and protect the condition of the road system, the Forest annually implements temporary road closures and load limits.

For the next few months Forest road managers will check conditions and sign roads “closed” or assign a load limit as appropriate based on the local conditions.

Flathead National Forest Public Affairs Officer Tami MacKenzie said, “When you travel on soft roadbeds it can cause damage which often leads to longer-term closures to fix the damage. Temporary restrictions are an important tool we use to help protect the road surface and ensure that the road drainage works properly. We ask all forest users to respect these spring break-up restrictions.”

For updated information on temporary road restrictions on the Flathead National Forest contact the individual ranger districts. For the Swan Lake Ranger District call (406) 837-7500.
