Blackhawks' season ends in double overtime

DARBY - The Blackhawks season came to an end in the opening round of the 13C District Tournament Feb. 16 at the hands of the Darby Tigers.

The Blackhawks came out strong outscoring the Tigers 2 to 1 in the first two quarters taking a 23-11 advantage into the second half. Their lead however would nearly evaporate in the third quarter and after a hard fought fourth quarter the teams were deadlocked.

Overtime turned into a battle of free throw shooting and a war of attrition as the teams fought for possession. The Blackhawks hit 6 of 15 attempted free throws in overtime while the Tigers hit 11 of 19 in overtime. By the end of the game, four Blackhawks and three Tigers had fouled out. The Blackhawks fell 49-57.

Sawyer Shelmerdine led the Blackhawks with 20 points from 8 baskets and 4 free throws. Jason James hit a pair of three-pointers on his way to 11 points followed by Chase Haines with 9 points. Klayton Kovatch scored 6 while Ben Haley added 2 and Seth Richardson had 1 point.
