Lady Blackhawks extend winning streak

SEELEY LAKE - The Lady Blackhawks extended their record to 9-0 last week with three more victories taking on Victor, Drummond and Valley Christian.

The Victor Pirates hosted the Lady Blackhawks Jan. 28 and put up very little fight. The Lady Blackhawks dominated the game winning by 74 points. The final score was 83-9.

Nearly all the Lady Blackhawks scored points with three of them scoring enough to defeat the Pirates single handedly. Klaire Kovatch and Aspen Conley scored 12 each while Bethany Hoag scored 11.

The Lady Blackhawks met a little stiffer competition on their home court facing Drummond Jan. 29.

Drummond struck first and pulled to an early 2-7 advantage. The Lady Blackhawks trailed the remainder of the quarter but never by more than a couple baskets.

A few minutes into the second quarter the Lady Blackhawks overtook Drummond and never looked back. They led 31 to 15 at the half and finished Drummond off 64-32 at the final buzzer.

Emily Maughan led the Lady Blackhawks with 19 points followed by Bethany with 11 and Aspen with 10. Bethany was dialed in from the free throw line hitting 4 of 4.

The Lady Blackhawks wrapped up the week with another dominating performance at Valley Christian where they easily defeated the Eagles 79-25.

Emily again led the Lady Blackhawks with 24 points hitting 9 out of 10 shots attempted and she went 5 of 6 from the free-throw line. Bethany and Klaire also scored into the double digits with 14 and 11 respectively.

This week the Lady Blackhawks head to Lincoln Feb. 4 and then host Darby Feb. 5 with JV starting at 5:30 p.m. before heading to Philipsburg, Feb. 6.
