Connecting with clients through massage

SEELEY LAKE - Massage Therapist Michelle Dunn is hoping to offer her clients relieving therapeutic massage services as she opens the extension of her massage clinic in Missoula, True North Massage, in Seeley Lake. Her techniques include trigger point therapy, myofascial release, soft tissue release, cupping, deep tissue massage and Swedish massage.

"My mission is to give my community a way to manage pain relief and stress to keep active so you can adventure in the great outdoors," Dunn said.

Dunn became interested in the massage field as she was looking for "more purposeful living" in her early 30's.

"It just came really easy to me," she said. "I have a pretty intuitive mind. ... I feel like I've been pretty helpful in rehabbing people through injuries and aches and pains."

She attended the National Holistic Institute - Redding Massage School for her basic massage training where she graduated in 2006. She then graduated from the Chico Therapy Wellness Center & Massage School in 2008 where she took advanced massage training. Both institutions are located in California.

She has also taken multiple courses in pregnancy, lymphatic and sports massage.

Dunn worked with several chiropractors, doctors and acupuncturists as well as in other spa-like settings including Paws Up Resort. She opened True North Massage in Missoula three years ago.

Dunn said her favorite aspect about participating in the therapeutic massage industry is being able to have a physical connection with her clients.

"I feel lucky to get to spend a longer amount of time with a patient versus maybe another healthcare professional that gets 15 minutes, 20 minutes," she said. "I usually get an hour or 90 minutes to check someone's spine or posture or feel what's going on in their body. So I feel that increases the effectiveness of the treatment."

The area Dunn finds the most challenging about her position is having to find a balance between acting as a business owner while simultaneously being the operator.

Dunn and her husband moved from Potomac after they bought a house in Seeley Lake in May. This new location will allow her to be closer to home and her kids. The family had lived in Potomac for seven years after moving from Red Bluff, California.

True North Massage's current soft opening is Feb. 1. Dunn plans to conduct sessions on Mondays until June where she hopes to have a consistent Monday through Friday schedule. She is looking for a replacement to take care of her Missoula clients.

Dunn is in the process of developing a website for both locations but in the meantime Seeley Lake clients can reach out to her at (406) 210-9241. More information about her services can also be found on True North Massage's Facebook page.

True North Massage is located in suite six of the Heritage Building at the north end of Seeley Lake, 3195 Highway 83.
