SEELEY LAKE – The community is invited to attend a History Snow Walk n’ Talk starting at Camp Paxson and Winterfest at Seeley Lake Elementary during the afternoon on Saturday, Feb. 6. The Seeley Lake Historical Society is hosting the Snow Walk from 1 – 4 p.m. The Seeley Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting Winterfest activities from 3-6 p.m.
The History Snow Walk n’ Talk will start at Camp Paxson, located along Boy Scout Road. Meet at the campfire for the start of snow tour at 1 p.m.
The tour will include a walking loop from Camp Paxson to Seeley Lake Campground, to the Maclean Cabin, through Girard Larch Grove and return. Estimated return to Camp Paxson is 4 p.m.
Most of the route is on packed trail (deer, snowmobile) with several snow-free tree wells. Unless significant snowfall occurs, the walk can be via snowshoe, ski or shanks-mare and spats.
Historic Talking points will include Camp Paxson, Hotel Point, Early Lakers & cabin life, logging history, Maclean family, fire history, Native Americans, Seeley brothers and Girard Grove. There is no charge but donations accepted. Bring drinks and snacks and dress is informal Montana layers.

Starting at 3 p.m., the Seeley Lake Chamber and Citizens Alliance Bank will be hosting outdoor Winterfest activities in the fields at SLE. There will be homemade snow cones, ice skating and a small fireworks show. Stageline Pizza is also offering a free slice of pizza to children from 3 – 6:30 p.m. at their location across the street.
The snow sculpture contest is back again this year with the first, second and third place traveling snowmen prizes to be awarded. Snow sculptures can be started after 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 and will be judged at the event.
Even though this is an outdoor event, masks are mandatory, social distancing will be required and hand sanitizer will be available. Per Missoula County regulations, attendees will be asked to sign in with a name and phone number to allow for contact tracing if necessary.
Winterfest is weather dependent. If it is canceled, it will be announced Friday at SLE, posted to the Seeley Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page or call 677-2990.
