Lady Blackhawks soar over Blue Hawks

SEELEY LAKE - The fans were in for a special treat Jan. 22 as the Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks took on the Thompson Falls Blue Hawks. Lincoln was originally scheduled but due to a lack of available players they had to cancel. The Blue Hawks proved to be a much more formidable match for the Lady Blackhawks.

The Blue Hawks struck first and the teams went shot for shot early in the game. The stalemate didn't last long though as the Lady Blackhawks went cold. They were taking plenty of shots but couldn't hit their mark.

The Lady Blackhawks' cold streak lasted well into the second quarter when it was finally broken by three point shots from Dani Sexton and Bethany Hoag. A basket from Sariah Maughan cut the Blue Hawks lead to just one.

A pair of three pointers from Aspen Conley and Hoag would finally put the Lady Blackhawks ahead in the third quarter.

The game was far from over and after battling back and forth, the teams found themselves tied at 46 with just over two minutes to play.

Back to back three pointers from Aspen followed by three free throws from Bethany and Aspen sealed the Blue Hawks' fate. The Lady Blackhawks won 55-48.

Aspen led the Lady Blackhawks with 14 points followed by Bethany with 11 and Kyla and Klaire Kovatch with 7 each. Sariah put in 6 while Rose Mercer had 4 and Emily Maughan had 3.

This week the Lady Blackhawks head to Victor Jan. 28 and then host Drummond Jan. 29 with JV starting at 5:30 p.m. They wrap up the week in Valley Christian Jan. 30.
