Spread out the giving, cover all ages in generosity

SEELEY LAKE - ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas, We wish you a Merry Christmas...’ I would like to begin by wishing each and everyone in the Seeley/Swan area a very safe, relaxing and rejuvenating holiday season. This is a season of giving and receiving. Mountain Lakes Presbyterian Church has been involved with the local “Giving Tree” for the past 30+ years. This has allowed us to connect with many families in the area and, hopefully, bring a bit of cheer to them.

The “Santa Helper Patrol” has just finished wrapping all of the presents and I must say that this year folks were AMAZING in their giving. We, who have worked on this project through the years, have never seen the generosity displayed this year. There are going to be a lot of truly happy children come Christmas Eve/Morning.

Over the years there have been some additional trees to the old “Giving Tree.” Sheila Czifro and the Tamaracks did a “Reverse Giving tree” together last year at the Tamaracks. This year Sheila did her own reverse giving tree at the community hall followed the next weekend by the Tamaracks reverse Giving tree at the Tamaracks. So there were TWO reverse giving trees this year, the Angel Tree at the Fire Hall (this was the third year) and the Presbyterian Church’s.

All of these trees are based on the desire to make someone’s Christmas special. One thought that has occurred to us this year was, in the Seeley area we have roughly three different groups of folks for a giving tree — the grade school, the high school and our wonderful senior/single community. Presently, most of the giving trees are targeting the younger age group. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if each of the three “giving tree” groups would chose one of the three “age groups” and then we could cover “all of the bases” and not have lots of duplication????

All any of these different organizations want to do is to make sure that folks have a wonderful holiday season. No one is there to “toot their own horn.” Actually the quieter we are, the more Santa’s secret is safe.
