Local Food Bag Drive started at Cory’s Valley Market

SEELEY LAKE - The Veterans and Families of Seeley Lake (VFSL) started their annual food drive at Cory’s Valley Market to support the Seeley-Swan Community Food Bank through the holiday season. Items needed at the Food Bank are pre-packaged into bags that are available to purchase for $10. After purchase, the bag is dropped off in the box near the exit of the store. The bags are delivered to the Food Bank to help keep the shelves stocked.

This program runs through Dec. 15. VFSL appreciates the community’s support.

Pile burning to start on Seeley Lake Ranger District

SEELEY LAKE - With the Fire Danger Low and the change in weather, the Seeley Lake Ranger District will be burning piles across the district.

“The advantage of burning piles is that we can be more responsive to smoke impacts as we go and hit better windows as burn duration will be shorter duration [than broadcast burning],” wrote District Ranger Quinn Carver in an email.

The District intends to start burning piles near Monture Station and/or then move to piles up near the Summit and Condon. There are at least three large piles in the vicinity of Big Larch and town they hope to burn as well.

Carver said they will be following airshed requirements and watching the smoke monitor in town to limit smoke impacts. If anyone has concerns they are encouraged to call the District, 677-2233.
