MISSOULA – The Blackhawks Cross Country team continued to pick up speed Friday, Oct. 16 at the Linda Vista meet hosted by Darby and Seeley-Swan High School. Head Coach Shawn Holmes said the runners had a great meet where they hosted mainly B schools there for their Divisional.
In the middle school race, eighth grader Sam Ayers took the bronze, setting a new season record of 13:15. He only missed his personal record from last year set at the Arlee Fish Hatchery by 14 seconds.
For the boys, Conner Chadwick placed 49th with a time of 24:35 in what Holmes called "a very tough field." Three B schools competing in the race will be fighting for a State Championship next week.
Only four Lady Blackhawks were able to compete at the meet so they did not get a team score. However, Holmes said they all did great.
Sariah Maughan not only led the Ladies but the entire field placing first. She set a new season record of 21:04.
Maughan's sister Emily was second to cross the finish line, taking the silver with a time of 21:32.
Ava Thornsberry set a new personal record in her second place of the season. She finished in 23:11, just over a second faster than her first race, taking seventh in the race.
SSHS's Hannah Ayers finished in 23:47 placing 11th in the field.
The Blackhawks Cross Country team heads to Rebecca Farms in Kalispell Saturday, Oct. 24 for the State Meet. The girls will run at 10:30 a.m. to defend their championship title from last year. The boys will run at 11:30 a.m.
