Here is how I am voting:
Last week’s letter dealt with Propositions, Judges and the Public Service Commission. You can view it here: http://kvs.org/vote/ballot-part1.pdf
MT House Rep, HD 92: TOM BROWDER is a native Montanan, who lives in the district. He is thoughtful and pragmatic, headed for the legislature to focus on a rational tax system with lower taxes for poor people. He supports affordable housing, so that we can accommodate a variety of incomes in Seeley Lake. He advocates for quality education from pre-K to college, trade and tech schools and community colleges.
His opponent doesn’t even live in our district! He voted for bills that are objectionable. He supported a bill that would require ballot initiatives to be passed by 2/3 of the state legislature, in direct contradiction of the intended citizen participation.
Realizing that Tom is a class act, he had to resort to scurrilous lies in his last mailing. Of course, BROWDER does not “take orders” from Pelosi, Schumer and Sanders. Nothing could be more preposterous. Tom takes orders from nobody.
U. S. Representative: KATHLEEN WILLIAMS is bright, articulate pragmatic and has a proven record for forging bipartisan agreements in the state legislature during her 25-year tenure
Her opponent is a real estate developer from Maryland, a carpet-bagger. He was a disaster as State Auditor, pushing junk health insurance. He is in favor of major cuts for Social Security and Medicare.
Secretary of State: BRYCE BENNETT is a fifth-generation Montanan, who as a State Senator brought Republicans and Democrats together to keep out-of-state dark money from invading Montana’s elections.
His opponent “bought” her job through large political donations. She used her position to dole out high-paying jobs and government contracts to family members and friends and wants to sell our public lands.
Attorney General: RAPH GRAYBILL, a fifth generation Montanan, serves as Chief Legal Counsel to the governor. He has practiced before the US Supreme Court and won a landmark decision before the Montana Supreme Court to protect public lands.
His opponent supports the transfer of public lands to the highest bidder. While in the legislature he voted for a bill that would allow Montana to secede from the United States.
State Auditor: He doesn’t actually audit anything but regulates insurance and securities.
As House Minority Whip SHANE MORIGEAU worked across the aisle to pass the strongest bill protecting students and child sex abuse victims. He is committed to hold insurance companies accountable, protect consumers from investment fraud, ensure that health insurance rates are affordable and as member of the Land Board keeping public lands in public hands.
His opponent is a fraud. He moved to Montana only a couple of years ago, yet claimed residency for years prior to illegally getting a hunting license. While MORIGEAU enjoys 64 endorsements, his opponent lists only three, one of which is Michael Flynn, who plead guilty to a felony count of making false statements to the FBI.
Part 3 of my choices in next week’s paper.
