Tamaracks presents their first annual Tricks & Treats

SEELEY LAKE - Tamaracks Resort is hosting their first ever Tricks & Treats event on Halloween night. Tamaracks Event Coordinator Tera Wold said their goal is to have all 17 cabins booked for the event with business, non-profits and individuals handing out candy. They look forward to welcoming the community to the Resort on Halloween.

The event will go from 6 to 9 p.m. for trick or treating with music playing over speakers until 10 p.m.

Staff will hand out maps containing the names of those who booked cabins. The map will come with a card for attendees to cast a vote for their favorite cabin. At 9:30 p.m., resort staff will pull the votes for the cabin judging competition.

The winning cabin will be able to put their name on a plaque that will return for future iterations of the event.

The event is free to both attend and book a cabin. If participants wanted to stay overnight then they would have to pay the standard fee.

“We just want to do it for the community,” Wold said. “No fees are involved.”

Businesses and non-profits will be allowed to book the cabins first and then the rest will be opened to the employees and general public on a first come, first served basis. The deadline to book a spot is Oct. 20.

Cabin bookers can arrive as early as 2 p.m. to set up decorations. They should be ready to go before 6 p.m. and are responsible for cleaning their space after 10 p.m.

Those booking a cabin will be required to wear a mask and gloves but children who attend will not. Trick or treaters will be encouraged to maintain a six foot distance however.

The only limitation on what bookers can distribute is that any goods must be individually wrapped. No homemade goods will be allowed.

Kids are invited to bring a carved pumpkin for the pumpkin judging competition. Attendees will get to vote on their favorite with ballots tallied at 9:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the winners who do not have to be present to win.

Certain aspects are still in development. Other potential features of the event include fire pits, an all ages haunted forest, a Halloween special on a projector and games.

“I’m super excited to get the community involved in another holiday,” Wold said. “Hopefully, we get a lot of people attending it and a lot of businesses and nonprofits there to help out.”

Wold and resort owner Jessica Kimmel had wanted to do a Halloween event for a few years but they did not feel they had the time or necessary staff to put it together. Staff member Sally Johnson brought the idea up again and they decided that this year would be the year to put it on because they were unsure at the time if there would be any other Halloween events due to COVID-19.

“I initially thought there was nowhere for the kids to go,” Wold said. “I wasn’t sure if they were doing the Trunk-or-Treat. So I thought it would be so sad if the kids and families just didn’t have a Halloween and I feel like something like this [... is] a tradition that should be upheld no matter how it lays out.”

Additional details will be posted on Tamarack Resort’s Facebook page. Once resort staff reaches out to local businesses and nonprofits, those interested in signing up should contact Wold at tamaracksevents@gmail.com where a registration form will be sent back.
