SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks volleyball team took to the court for the much anticipated season opener against Charlo Aug. 27.
The Lady Blackhawks fell to Charlo in the first two sets 17-25 and 16-25 before coming back to take the third set 25-17.
The fourth set was hard fought with neither team being able to build much advantage over the other. The Lady Blackhawks had a small lead mid way though but that would soon evaporate and Charlo took the set 20-25 to win the match.
Klaire Kovatch led the Lady Blackhawks in kills and blocks with 8 and 4 respectively. Dani Sexton had a pair of aces and 5 digs while Aspen Conley led in assists with 10.
"Getting that third set where they've already had two sets of momentum. That's really important," said Kovatch.
While the Lady Blackhawks were unable to capitalize on their success in the fourth set, Kovatch felt the team's hitting coverage was good, rarely missing balls they should have gotten. She added that they needed to work on ball control and serving.
"We're super thankful to be here. We're thankful to our two new coaches for stepping up and getting us ready to go and we're really hopeful for the rest of the season," said Kovatch.
This week the Lady Blackhawks will face Valley Christian on the road Sept. 3 and then host Lincoln Sept. 5. Check the Seeley-Swan High School Activities Facebook page for updates and live streaming of games.
