Loon & Fish Festival, Shakespeare in the Park canceled

"This was a tough decision for Alpine Artisans to cancel the Loon and Fish Festival this summer," stated AAI Program Manger Jenny Rohrer. "The Festival was scheduled for the first weekend in August, featuring a major art show and sale, Soup Bowl Food Bank fundraiser, live music and scholarship raffle, but in consultation with our volunteers, we decided to play it safe and come back again next summer. We couldn't live with bringing even one case to our community".

In a normal summer, AAI's 2 Valleys Stage program brings Montana Shakespeare in the Park (MSITP) to the grounds of Double Arrow Resort for a free performance, with generous funding from the Seeley Lake Community Foundation. This year's performance of Shakespeare's Cymbeline was scheduled for Aug. 17. However, MSITP decided to cancel all their performances throughout the state to keep their ensemble safe and healthy. We look forward to next year's performance.

The two-day Painting for a Dream Workshop, featuring Sun Valley, Idaho oil painter Lori McNee scheduled for Oct. 17-18 at the Tamaracks Resort has also been canceled due to a family conflict of the presenter. Carrie Darrah's Obsession Pottery ceramic workshops and Kris Gullikson's Uncorked and Creative painting workshops have also been on hold, but both look forward to when they can resume. The new event website, seeleyswanevents.net, will post updates on AAI events and workshops.

"This is a summer for spending quality time with family and friends, practicing kindness and being safe. No doubt, our community thrives on in-person contact at concerts, book readings, music events and workshops. Living in Montana, we have so much to look forward to as we emerge from this tough time," Rohrer predicted.

AAI is optimistic that the pandemic situation will be improved by the fall and that we can manage visitors safely in the multiple studios, museums and art galleries that are part of the Tour of the Arts.. The Tour of the Arts is a two-day self-guided tour always held on the second weekend in October during the height of the Tamaracks' fall color, with sites stretching from the Swan Valley through Seeley Lake, Ovando and Lincoln. Watch for an update on the Tour soon.
