Elect a fair, balanced representative of the people

SEELEY LAKE - Though I am trying to appreciate Troy Spence and Don Larson’s efforts to tell the fine folks of Seeley Lake who they should vote for in the upcoming sewer district director election, I am a bit troubled by their need to tell people, who are more than capable of making their own decisions, who to vote for. Part of the reason I am running myself is the fog of opposition and their blizzard of opposing letters and information have created much confusion. I would like to be able to cut through that and inform myself and others of the need for a sewer system in our fine community.

Troy has endorsed two candidates that are actually related and have made it widely known that they share the same viewpoint. This appears to be “stacking the deck” and certainly does not promote diversity on the board. In one of his earlier letters he claimed that one of the other candidates should be disqualified due to not being a property owner while others should be disqualified for being property or business owners. I guess I would be a little more inclined to lend Troy and Don some credence if they didn’t have such blatant contradictions and double standards.

The thing that is most telling to me about their endorsements is that neither of them has actually spoken to me to find out what my position actually is. This again leads me to believe that they are only endorsing the candidates that they know will operate in their best interest.

I really appreciated the point Kyle Zumwalt made about the delays costing our community more and more and how the system would have been a lot cheaper when it was first contemplated. I have to believe the delay tactics that have been employed are a big reason the sewer project cost is continuing to go up. Is the opposition really a friend to the community?

As those who read my short statement in the April 16 issue can see I am very concerned with what the cost per household would be and would work to find alternative ways to finance the project so as not to be a burden to anyone.

Troy and Don have done a good job in opposing the issue and delaying the process. I would like to think that they should trust the folks of Seeley Lake to make a decision as to whom they think would be a fair and balanced representative for them on the board.

Whether or not I am elected, I trust the folks of Seeley Lake to make the most informed decision they can without me touting my own qualifications or those of anyone else. If elected I will do my best to be fair and balanced and always try to be a good representative for the people in our community.

Thank you for your consideration.

Duane Anderson, Candidate for Sewer District Director
