Missoula County Sheriff's Deputy Heath Hanson inspecting the hole in the ice on Salmon Lake where a vehicle fell through thin ice Monday afternoon. Seeley-Swan Search and Rescue and the Seeley Lake Fire Department volunteers responded. The occupant was recovered by a certified diver from Missoula County Sheriff's Office.
SEELEY LAKE – Just after 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10 a vehicle was reported sinking into the northern portion of Salmon Lake near the open water. A certified diver with the Missoula County Sheriff's Office extracted the sole occupant Douglas Pewitt, 80 of Seeley Lake, at approximately 8 p.m. The vehicle was then removed from the lake. The recovery took several hours with very cold temperatures.
The Missoula County Sheriff's Office ruled it an accidental drowning. The Sheriff's Office said, "A big thank you to assisting agencies and the diver who helped in this very sad incident."...
