Skiers take to the trails for annual OSCR

SEELEY LAKE – Groomers hit the trails at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 to prepare the course for this year's OSCR, "Over Seeley's Creeks and Ridges." Nearly 120 racers came from all over the northwest including racers from Minnesota and Alaska for this year's 50K, 25K, 10K and 5K races Jan. 25.

This year's race was a double loop format for the 50K. 50K racers started to trickle in for their second loop following the start of the 25K. With no new snow to work with and warm temperatures, the course started off icy and turned to soft later in the morning.

Christi Richards of Missoula, Mont. returned again this year to reclaim her title for the women's 50K. She won in 2016 and 2017 but did not participate in 2018 and 2019. She finished in 3:38:02, a time between her past two finishes.

Craig Hertz of Whitefish, Mont. is the new champion of the men's 50K. He finished third last year and skied to take the gold this year.

Kim Grover was the only Seeley Laker to compete this year in the 50K. She finished in sixth for the women with a time of 4:13:21.

Last year's second place 50K finisher Henry Reich of Missoula took the gold in the men's 25K with a time of 1:25:09. Hannah Specht of Missoula, Mont. was the women's first place finisher skiing in at 1:37:30.

Darren Zellman of Seeley Lake was the only local in the men's 25K. He finished in third place with a time of 1:29:08. Anne Dahl of Condon represented the local women in the 25K finishing in 2:37:51 – first in her age group and 12 years older than her nearest competitor.

Seeley Lake's Cora Stone beat Missoula's Julie Vetter by two seconds for the gold finishing in 40:49.80. Ella Batchelder of Seeley Lake was close behind with a 41:46.57 finish for third.
