Nearly 15 percent increase to building permits proposed

MISSOULA - Based on a request for commission action, the Missoula County Commissioners will consider a resolution to adopt the 2018 Building Codes as well as a resolution to adopt increased fees for building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits of roughly 15 percent. If approved both would take effect Feb. 1.

The decision will be made at the Commissioners’ public hearing Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. in the Sophie Moiese Room 151 of the Missoula County Courthouse Annex, 200 West Broadway, Missoula

Missoula County Public Works proposes adopting the following codes: 2018 Uniform Plumbing Code, 2018 International Mechanical Code, 2018 International Fuel Gas Code, 2017 National Electrical Code, 2018 International Building Code, 2018 International Residential Code, 2018 International Existing Building Code, 2018 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code.

The building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing permit fees have not increased since 2011. Public Works is requesting the fee increase to match the City of Missoula for “jurisdictional continuity” and will add an estimated $100,000 to the building department’s revenue.
