Seeley-Swan takes on Vikings and Lynx

SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks Boys racked up a pair of wins while the Lady Blackhawks split the week as the teams faced the Charlo Vikings and Lincoln Lynx on the road Jan. 10 and 11.

The Blackhawks took a commanding lead over the Vikings in the first half. While the teams went point for point in the third the Blackhawks scored 25 points in the final frame to finish off the Vikings 77-49.

Nearly all the Blackhawks who were on the bench got in on the scoring but it was Owen Mercado who stole the show scoring nearly half the points. He hit 17 shots and went two out of three on free throws for 36 points.

Sawyer Shelmerdine and Quinlan Ream broke into the double digits as well. Shelmerdine had six baskets and a pair of free throws for 14 points while Ream scored 10 points off three two-pointers, a free throw and one of the Blackhawks’ two three-pointers. Seth Richardson hit the other three-pointer.

Also scoring: Dakota Wood 6, Chase Haines 4, Walker McDonald 2 and Brayden Rodriguez 2.

The next day the Blackhawks made quick work of the Lynx putting them down 72-35.

Four Blackhawks scored into the double digits with Mercado scoring 26, Shelmerdine 13, Haines 11 and McDonald 10. Haines hit three of the Blackhawks five three-pointers.

Also scoring: Ream 6, Richardson 2, Wood 2 and Rodriguez 2.

Blackhawks: 15, 18, 16, 25 - 77

Charlo: 8, 12, 16, 13 - 49

Blackhawks: 23, 19, 17, 13 - 72

Lincoln: 8, 5, 9, 13 - 35

The Lady Blackhawks faced stiff competition at Charlo. They found themselves trailing a couple of baskets in the first half but soon Charlo was out of reach. Final score was 30-49.

Aspen Conley hit three three-pointers of 11 attempted on her way to lead the Lady Blackhawks with 11 points. Terra Bertsch hit the Ladies other three-pointer while Emily Maughan, Sariah Maughan, and Klaire Kovatch had 5 points each and Kara Good scored 1.

The Lady Blackhawks went from stiff competition in Charlo to minimal competition in Lincoln. They shut out the Lynx in the first quarter and then held them to single digits in each of the remaining quarters. The final score was 60-24.

Four Lady Blackhawks scored into the double digits with Sariah and Kovatch leading with 13 points each and Rose Mercer and Aspen adding 10 points each.

The Lady Blackhawks hit seven three-pointers. Sariah was dialed in hitting three of four attempted while Mercer hit two and Kyla Conley and Aspen hit one each.

Charlo: 11, 11, 14, 13 - 49

Lady Blackhawks: 12, 13, 25, 10 - 60

Lincoln: 0, 9, 8, 7 - 24

The Blackhawks’ and Lady Blackhawks’ next game is at home Jan. 17 against Darby. The JV Girls start at 2:30 p.m. The teams then take on Victor on the road Jan. 18 with JV Boys starting at 1 p.m.
