SUPERIOR – The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks took on the Clark Fork Co-op Mountain Cats Jan. 3 on the road.
The Blackhawks hung with the Mountain Cats in the first quarter but took a sizable lead in the second quarter. They headed into the second half up 27-12. After a close third quarter the Blackhawks finished off strong with a final score of 56-32.
Owen Mercado was on fire. He scored 36 points for the Blackhawks, hitting a dozen baskets including three from three-point range and went 6 for 8 from the free throw line.
Sawyer Shelmerdine had 10 points putting in four baskets and a pair of free throws. Chase Haines added 7 points while Walker McDonald and Brayden Rodriguez each had 2 and Dakota Wood had 1.
Blackhawks: 11, 16, 13, 14 - 56
Mountain Cats: 7, 5, 14, 6 - 32
The Lady Blackhawks wasted no time putting the Mountain Cats down outscoring them 13-2 in the first quarter. They didn’t let up and finished them off 48-26 at the final buzzer.
Nearly all the Lady Blackhawks scored at least one basket while two scored into the double digits. Klaire Kovatch hit five baskets and a pair of free throws for 12 points. Terra Bertsch had 10 points on four baskets with one being a three pointer and a free throw.
Also scoring: Kyla Conley 5, Bethany Hoag 5, Emily Maughan 4, Taylor Dillree 3, Sariah Maughan 3, Aspen Conley 2, Hannah Ayers 2 and Kara Good 2.

Mountain Cats: 2, 8, 6, 10 - 26
The Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks next game is on the road at Charlo Jan. 10 with JV Boys starting at 4 p.m. The teams then travel to Lincoln Jan. 11 with a start time of 4 p.m. for Varsity only.
