Swan Valley Community Library Highlights

Swan Valley - The Swan Library will be hosting a weather data class on Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. in the library. Kathy Martin will be sharing how to record the data and enter it on a website. Sign up at the library or call Martin at 406-253-5027.

The monthly book chat group will be discussing a World War II novel “The Women in the Castle” by Jessica Shattuck. The story focuses on three women referred to in the title. They are widows of resisters involved in the assassination attempt on Hitler. They represent the everyday Germans who must deal with the unimaginable hardships of the aftermath of war. The novel even offers some insight on how the country became “a breeding ground for Hitler’s brand of evil” according to a review. The novel with its unique perspective on the postwar German society “answers why the current appetite for World War II literature has not abated. In many ways we haven’t learned the lessons that history has to teach us.”

Copies of the novel are available at the library to check out. The book chat for January will be held Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 1 p.m.

Story Time at the library is held every Friday at 11 a.m. The youngsters hear a story and participate in a craft to take home.

The Swan Valley Library is located on Highway 83 in Condon and is just north and adjacent to the Swan Valley Community Hall. The library is open Mondays and Fridays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. For more information call 754-2521.
