Local Food Bag Drive started at Cory’s Valley Market

SEELEY LAKE - The Veterans and Families of Seeley Lake (VFSL) started their annual food drive at Cory’s Valley Market to support the Seeley Swan Community Food Bank through the holiday season. Needed items are pre-packaged into bags that are available to purchase for $10. After purchase, the bag is dropped off in the box near the exit of the store. The bags are delivered to the Food Bank to help keep the shelves stocked. 

This program runs through Dec. 15. VFSL appreciates the community’s support.

Swan Valley Elementary Harvest Party, Nov. 1

Swan Valley – Everyone is invited to the Swan Valley Elementary Harvest Party & fundraiser Friday, Nov. 1. The Taco Bar runs from 5 – 6:30 p.m. followed by carnival games from 6 – 8 p.m.

The Taco Bar fundraiser is $5 per person or $20 for a family of four or more. This is provided by the sixth-eighth grade class to help sponsor their Montana History Trips.

Carnival games include a cake walk, guessing jar, photo booth, face painting and more. Games are $0.25-$0.50 each. This is provided by the Swan Valley Parent Teacher Association.

Pure Montana Tales presents Prescribed Fire for Private Lands, Nov. 5

OVANDO - Join Blackfoot Challenge for engaging presentation and discussion with Dave Lasky of the Gravitas Peak Wildland Fire Module Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the Ovando School Gym. 

Based in Colorado, the Gravitas Peak Wildland Fire Module works across boundaries with numerous partners in order to accomplish large-scale prescribed burns. They have completed successful burns on thousands of acres of private and public land, in timber and rangeland. Through the Blackfoot Prescribed Fire Working Group, Lasky and his group are currently working on prescribed fire plans for portions of the Blackfoot.

This will be an interactive discussion so bring questions, ideas and your own fire experiences to add to the conversation.

The North American beaver presentation at Community Potluck, Nov. 6

Swan Valley - Swan Valley Connections’ November Community Potluck Dinner will be held Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Swan Valley Community Hall in Condon. Join SVC for delicious food and Rob Rich’s presentation on the ecology and conservation of the Swan Valley’s habitat-diversifying, wildfire-buffering, water-storming rodent: the North American beaver!

Swan Valley Connections’ monthly potlucks are held on the first Wednesday of every month. They are a time for all community members to come together, share food and learn from one another! Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Potluck dinner at 6 p.m. followed by the presentation at 6:30 p.m. There is a time to get to know your neighbors at 7 p.m.

Missoula City-County Health Department Open House in Seeley Lake, Nov. 7

SEELEY LAKE - Join the Missoula City-County Health Department for an open house at the Seeley Lake Community Foundation building, 3150 Highway 83, Thursday, Nov. 7 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.  This open house provides an opportunity for Seeley Lake residents to ask questions or give comments about the proposed air rules and meet Health Department sanitarians with a wide range of expertise.  Health Department employees will be able answer questions about property development and subdivision, construction or remodel projects, wastewater systems, food safety and restaurants, swimming pools, hotels, daycares and more.

Seeley Lake Library News

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley Lake Library Book Club will discuss Chris La Tray’s “One-Sentence Journal” on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. Winner of the 2018 Montana Book Award, this book is a collection of short poems and essays that describes La Tray’s encounters in his day-to-day life in northwest Montana. It has been hailed as a celebration of words that captures the wonder in every single day.

All are invited to join in the discussion. Books are available at the checkout desk. For more information call 677-8995.

The Seeley Lake Library is a branch of Missoula Public Library located at Seeley-Swan High School. The library is open to the public Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.
