Working cooperatively at Seeley Lake Elementary

SEELEY LAKE – Zoe Mohesky is the new third grade teacher at Seeley Lake Elementary. She is co-teaching with Kristy Pohlman for the year and is looking forward to getting to know her students, the staff and becoming more involved in the community.

Mohesky's parents were both teachers. Even though education had always intrigued her, it wasn't until an eight-month trip to Fiji in the early 1990s that she really thought about going back into education.

"The kids were so excited, it just made me feel so good even though we couldn't communicate with one another other than by looking at their textbooks," said Mohesky.

Mohesky already had a Bachelor's of Arts in Geography and was working as a land use planner for Missoula County. When she went back to school for education she pursued a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Montana.

Mohesky had a lot of varied teaching experience in Missoula over the past 10 years. While she primarily worked with kindergarten through fifth grade, she was also a librarian for sixth grade at C.S. Porter Middle School.

As a land use planner Mohesky spent a lot of time in Seeley Lake recreating and she really enjoyed the area. Her husband's parents recently moved to the area so they have spent even more time here. Mohesky has always wanted to get out of Missoula and since Seeley Lake is an area she knows and loves she applied at SLE. She said she was thrilled to be offered the third grade cooperative teaching position.

Mohesky looks forward to getting to know more about her students, their interests, what grabs their attention and how she can help them excel. She also looks forward to getting to work more cooperatively with Pohlman, understanding the resources available and getting to know the rest of the staff at SLE.

"I'm excited to work with a dedicated group," said Mohesky. "I know they have gone through a lot of changes but I think everything is starting to run really smooth. They are a great cooperative staff."

When she is not teaching, Mohesky loves to travel and spend time with her family. She also enjoys swimming, biking, canoeing, skiing and the outdoors. She is excited about having enough snow to recreate in this winter and engaging more with the community.

Mohesky said, "We are off to a pretty good start."
