Information sought on moose poached near Clinton

CLINTON - Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) is seeking information on a bull moose that was poached this week near Clinton in western Montana.

The moose was found in the Swartz Creek area southwest of Clinton. FWP Game Wardens say that wildlife crimes like this one are often solved because of leads provided by the public.

Anyone with information regarding the poaching is encouraged to contact FWP at 1-800-TIP-MONT (1-800-847-6668). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to a conviction.

Celebrate forests, water and beer, Oct. 29

BONNER – Join The Nature Conservancy Oct. 29 from 5-8 p.m. at the KettleHouse Brewing Company, 605 Cold Smoke Lane, Bonner to celebrate the critical link between healthy forests and beer’s main ingredient: water!  TNC staff will be onsite at the KettleHouse Bonner taproom to provide information on our efforts to restore and maintain the health of Montana forests.

“The U.S. Forest Service estimates that about half of its forested lands are in need of restoration. TNC is committed to restoring our Montana forests so they continue to provide benefits to people, wildlife and the water all living things need to thrive,” said Chris Bryant, TNC’s Western Montana land protection director.

The relevance of forests to breweries is clear: 95 percent of beer is water and 40 percent of the world’s usable water comes from our forests. Forests improve water supplies in many ways -- they shade streams, lakes, and snow from evaporation; the forest floor helps filter sediment; and tree roots hold soil together so it can store water like a sponge.

“We’re committed to matching the quality of our beer with Montana’s gorgeous outdoors,” says KettleHouse co-founder Tim O’Leary. “We know that without clean water we can’t make world class beers. Since our water is sourced from the Big Blackfoot River watershed, we are the direct beneficiary of healthy forests. We thank all the people who have worked together to protect our Blackfoot watershed. Prost!”
