SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks had a rough start against the undefeated Clark Fork Mountain Cats falling 28 points behind early in the final home game of the season Oct. 11.
The Blackhawks finally got some points on the board when Brayden Rodriguez caught the ball and ran in a tipped pass for a 25-yard touchdown in the final minute of the first quarter.
In the second quarter the Blackhawks matched the Cats touchdown for touchdown. Caleb Maughan scored on a 22-yard play, Dakota Wood returning a kick 64 yards for a touchdown and Owen Hoag took a pass in for a 51-yard touchdown. The Blackhawks headed into the locker room down 18 points.
Wood opened the second half with a second kick return for a touchdown this time taking it more than 65 yards. The Cats stuck in two touchdowns before Maughan scored his second of the game with a 60-yard reception.
The Cats scored twice more and shut out the Blackhawks in the final frame bringing the final score to 44-80. While the Blackhawks didn't get the upset they really wanted they did score the most points against the Mountain Cats this season, just ahead of Flint Creek who scored 42.
Owen Mercado led the Blackhawks in rushing with 122 yards in 14 carries and also completed 13 of 21 passes for 148 yards. Mercado also led the team in solo tackles being credited with 9 while Eric Lorentz and Brice Hawkinson had the team's 2 sacks.
The Blackhawks' next game is at Thompson Falls Oct. 25 with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
