Essential oils for preparedness, Sept. 19 & Sept. 28

SEELEY LAKE – Learn how you can empower your family now and in times of emergencies with essential oils in your emergency kit during National Preparedness Month. Join doTERRA Wellness Advocates Mari Bergeson and Marjorie Pelletier Sept. 19 from 7-8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 28 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Seeley Lake Elementary Multi-purpose Room for a free seminar on how to use the power of essential oils for health and wellness.

Jewel Basin Hawk Watch Trip, Sept. 21

Flathead Audubon is offering a field trip to the Hawk Watch site in the Jewel Basin on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. to see migrating fall raptors. The hike to the Hawk Watch site will take approximately two hours and is uphill at a moderately strenuous pace. Weather can affect the field trip, so dress accordingly. The temperature feels much colder at the ridge-top viewing site than in the valley. This trip is limited to nine people. Montana Mountain Mushers Canine Fun Days Oct. 5 & Oct. 6

SEELEY LAKE - All beginning or experienced mushers, runners, bike enthusiasts and scooter lovers are invited to Mushing 101/Canine Fun Days Oct. 5 and Oct. 6 at the West Side Bypass Trailhead, four miles north of Seeley Lake. Montana Mountain Mushers is hosting the event to begin at 8:30 a.m. both days.

All skill levels are invited. Participants are encouraged to bring their wheeled rigs (four-wheelers, dog scooters, bikes or carts) and dogs to the training. Rides will be available and an opportunity to talk with area mushers. Camping is available at the trailhead.

Missoula County Parks and Trails grant applications available

The Missoula County Parks and Trails Advisory Board wants to hear about your project idea for improving community recreation opportunities throughout the county. They are accepting matching grant applications through Nov. 1

Each year, grant funds are made available to community groups interested in improving and maintaining public recreation sites and facilities outside the Missoula City Limits. There is $40,000 available for capital improvement projects and $10,000 set aside for maintenance projects. Eligible match includes cash expenses, volunteer labor and in-kind donations of materials and professional services. Examples of past projects include: playground construction/maintenance, trail construction/improvements, ice skating facilities, and improvements to community centers.
