OVANDO - The Blackfoot Challenge hosted its second annual Block Party fundraiser in downtown Ovando on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Nearly 200 people attended the event that hosted local food trucks such as Lindey's Steak Sandwich Truck and the Montana Farm Girls, live music from the Huckleberry Pickers of Seeley Lake and Helena, as well as a raffle and live auction with Kevin Ertl as the auctioneer.
"Really, thanks to all of you, this is a chance for us to say thank you to the communities that do all of the great work in this valley, " said Jim Stone, Blackfoot Challenge board chair.
The Blackfoot Challenge also announced Seth Wilson as its new executive director at the block party.
"I'm really honored and really humbled by the people who have made up this valley the last 40 years of their legacy of people working together, cooperating, and generating the long term legacy that the Blackfoot Challenge is all about," said Wilson at the event. "It's an incredibly special organization made up of incredibly special people."
Blackfoot Challenge board members donated custom handmade items for the fundraising events. A trail ride into Heart Lake with B & C Outfitters was auctioned that evening, as was a fully supported watershed tour with the Blackfoot Challenge board and staff including dinner and lodging at the Double Arrow Lodge. To add to the fundraising efforts of the evening, the Huckleberry Pickers announced they would be donating their pay for the evening back to the Blackfoot Challenge.
"We want to make sure we keep doing this and celebrating the great things we do on the ground," said Stone.
