SEELEY LAKE – The “Welcome to Seeley Lake” sign that the Seeley Lake Community Foundation planned to install south of town has been put on hold. Foundation Executive Director Claire Muller broke the news at the Seeley Lake Community Council’s July 8 meeting.
“It was not feasible to put it where it was planned in the time frame that we had for that grant funding,” said Muller.
Muller explained that the design and the location ended up being the hold up coupled with the deadline to install the sign. The design was permitted for the location. The design could not be modified to fit the location and the location could not be changed with the necessary permits before the grant expired.
The $17,000 project was funded with $11,000 grant from the Montana Department of Commerce Tourism Grant Program and the remainder would be raised by the Foundation. Muller said there were no funds expended and the donors who did give to the project are being given the option of being refunded.
Muller said the future of the sign is uncertain but that the design could be modified and the permits and grants can be applied for again.
