Blackfoot Rendezvous breakin' records, havin' fun in the sun

POTOMAC - The second annual Blackfoot Rendezvous was a screaming success according to the Explorers Parent Group that hosted the event.

"We made more than $4,000 this year, thanks to our generous cash donors and food donations we received," said Explorers parents Michelle Dunn and Jenny Clark.

The event was created to raise funds for the Potomac School Explorers Program. Explorers takes place Fridays during the school year since Potomac School has a four-day school week.

More than 450 people attended the event from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. The event activities were busy including food sales of baked goods, burgers and chili, silent auction, music, vendors and games. Kids enjoyed a bouncy house, carnival games like fishing, bean bag and ring tossing as well as face painting, gold rush digging, stick horse rodeo and pony rides.

Adults enjoyed perusing the vendors and birdhouse crafts the Explorers students made, listened to music by The Potomac Bluegrass Pickers, Aaron "B-Rocks" Broxterman of the Last Best Band and Texas Tom and JD, and enjoyed beverages by Wildwood Brewery.

Silent auction top three winners included Steven VanGrinsven who won four hours of backhoe service donated by Mike Shoenheide; C. Iverson who won four hours of manual labor donated by Jason Hambright; and Alex Duello who won a vintage Monte Dolack print.

In the cake auction, Deb Bowers won a two-layer yellow cake with butter cream filling and chocolate fudge icing, Mary Clark won a Lemon Lovers Dream Cake and John Iverson won a plate of Neiman Marcus Squares.

Next year the event will include a full show by the band JD Western Front. This is their donation to the event.

Explorer parent Asha MacDonald said at the end of the event, "It was fabulous this year with twice the attendees and great weather."
