SEELEY LAKE – Everyone is invited to join the Seeley Lake Historical Society for the movie "Timberjack" at the Seeley Lake Historical Museum and Visitor's Center June 1 at 7 p.m. This is another in the Historical Society's series of movies filmed in Montana.
"Timberjack" is a story of two competing logging operators in love with the same woman. Thrill to the performances of Sterling Hayden, Vera Ralston and David Brian, ably supported by Adolphe Menjou, Chill Wills and Hoagy Carmichael. The screenplay was based on the novel by Dan Cushman of "Stay Away, Joe" fame, who spent much of his life in Montana.
Filming locations included Glacier National Park, Polson and St. Mary's Lake, and the world premiere was at the Fox Theater in Missoula on Feb. 4, 1955. In conjunction with the premiere, Missoula celebrated "Timberjack Days," a festival honoring both the movie and the 50th anniversary of the US Forest Service. Notable participants included Gov. J. Hugo Aronson, stars from the movie and the singing cowboy Rex Allen, making his first Montana visit.
The film is described as filmed in rugged Montana; untamed...wild and primitive as the Great North Woods; and a fiery drama, courageous men...and a woman of passion...blazing a fury-trail through the savage wilderness.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and attendees can enjoy popcorn, cookies and coffee during the film.
