SEELEY LAKE - It’s been six long years since the Loon and Fish Festival was on the Memorial Day Weekend schedule in Seeley Lake, and nine years since the festival was held at the Seeley Lake Community Hall, where the Festival was first held in 1993! Alpine Artisans, Inc. has returned to the original formula for this popular event – a celebration of art and nature.
The festival is anchored by an elegant art show and sale featuring over 30 artists from the Blackfoot, Seeley and Swan Valleys – including wood work, jewelry, watercolor, oils, embroidery, beadwork, origami, ceramics, mixed media, sculpture, photography and more.
Six artists will be demonstrating their creative process in on-site demonstrations, and Merrily Dunham returns for a Quick Draw. The Montana Loon Society is represented by Donna Love, who will lead a Loon Walk and Chris Hammond, who will present a Loon Talk. Diann Ericson will lead a wildflower walk to Holland Falls. Live music both days will add to the atmosphere.
The Food Bank Soup Bowl Lunch returns on Saturday. Potters Bob Korn of Swan Valley’s Kornutopia and Carrie Darrah of Obsession Pottery have donated more than 100 bowls for the fundraiser. Over 10 local restaurants also donate a full variety of soup to choose from.
Alpine Artisans has just awarded four youth grant scholarships this year and one senior scholarship. AAI relies on the raffle at Loon and Fish to replenish funding for these awards. Raffle prizes include an 11-foot stand-up paddleboard, a Japanese-style walnut and bird’s eye maple lamp by Dona Aitken and a dump truck load (10 cubic yards) of quality top soil donated by Deer Creek Excavating. Raffle tickets are sold at Heritage Office Supply, outside Valley Market on Saturday morning, May 18, and at the Festival. Winners will be drawn at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 26. Participants need not be present to win.
