Seeley-Swan has strong showing at KLH

MISSOULA - The Girls of Seeley-Swan took first place at the Kim L. Haines Memorial Track Meet May 4 with 92 team points ahead of Charlo with 84. The Boys took second place with 58 points behind Frenchtown's 132.

Both the Girls 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams edged out the competition for first place. Their time of 52.30 seconds in the short relay was the fastest of the season.

On the track, Sariah Maughan set new personal records in the 1600 and 800-meter of 5:22.39 and 2:29.12 minutes earning first and second place respectively. Hannah Ayers also set a PR in the 1600-meter with a time of 5:40.63.

Other top finishes for the girls on the track include Lily Mercer's second place in the 100-meter, Terra Bertsch's third in the 100-meter hurdles, and Sariah took fourth in the 400-meter.

In the field events, Autumn Morse took first place in the javelin with a throw of 121 feet 4 inches while Bertsch cleared 5 feet in the high jump for first place. In the discus, Klaire Kovatch took second with a throw of 122 feet 5 inches and Kara Good threw 102 feet even for fifth place.

For the Boys, Hunter Shelmerdine earned the only first place with his meet and school record setting time of 49.82 seconds in the 400-meter. He also earned fourth in the 100-meter with a personal record time of 11.50 seconds.

Also on the track, Logan Robinson took third in the 100 and fourth in the 200-meter while the Boy's 4x400 relay took first and 4x100 relay came in third.

Shelmerdine took fourth in the triple jump with his season's best of 39 feet 6 inches while Caleb Maughan earned fifth in the high jump.

In the throwing events, Nate Samuli threw his season's best of 160 feet 4 inches earning second place in the javelin while Walker McDonald threw 134 feet 2 inches for fourth place in the discus.

This week the Blackhawks head to the District 13C and 14C track meet in Missoula May 10 and 11.
