Cakes for Canines boasts largest crowd to support shelter animals

SEELEY LAKE – Pop's Place opened their doors after their month long spring break for the annual Cakes for Canines donation pancake breakfast May 1. The free breakfast included pancakes, bacon and eggs, great conversation and an opportunity to support the Paws Up Safe Home Animal Shelter in Potomac. Paws Up Operator Hazel Tyler said it was the best turnout they have ever had for the event.

There are currently 26 dogs, a feral cat colony and five cats at the shelter. They adopted out two horses last fall.

Tyler is grateful to owners of Pop's Tim and Connie Clark for donating their time, the restaurant and food as well as waitress Jen Stevenson for also donating her time.

Elinor Williamson donated a cat tent that was raffled off at the event. Bill Ogden won the tent. Louise Cameron also donated two quilts that were sold through silent auction.

"Everything goes to the shelter that is brought in," said Tyler who added proceeds help pay the shelter's insurance and purchase other necessities. "Thank you to everyone who donated and came out and ate and donated to the animals. We are really feeling blessed because people really do care about those animals."

Monty Montgomery donated two agate lamps, one with a cat and another with a dog. Two squares can be purchased for $5 at Pop's until the Seeley Lake Farmer's Market starts. Then visit the Paws Up booth to purchase a square. Once all the squares are sold, they will hold the drawing.

Photos of the adoptable animals are posted on the Paws Up Safe Home Facebook page. Anyone interested in meeting the animals are encouraged to call Tyler at 406-244-2552 to set up a time to visit.
