Blackhawks soar at Polson

POLSON - The Boys and Girls of Seeley-Swan took second place at the Dave Tripp Memorial track meet April 12. The meet attracted three Class B schools and 12 Class C schools. The Boys were just 3.5 points short of Powell County's 105 points while the Girls were 12.5 points behind Charlo's 105.5 points.

On the track the Boys shined in the 100, 200, 400-meter and both relays.

Logan Robinson won both the 100 and 200-meter races with times of 11.62 and 23.44 seconds. Dakota Wood hot on his heels taking third in the 100 and second in the 200-meter.

Hunter Shelmerdine won the 400 in 51.62 seconds and placed fourth in the 200. Cordell Turner took fourth in the 800-meter while Chase Haines took sixth in the 110-meter hurdles.

The 4x100 relay was a photo finish with the Blackhawks in second behind Powell County by just one hundredth of a second. The Boys blew the competition away in the 4x400 relay, taking first by more than 20 seconds over second place with a time of 3:33.57 minutes.

In the field events, Nate Samuli has his best throw of the season at 156 feet earning a first place in the javelin. Shelmerdine earned a first place jumping 38 feet 8.5 inches in the triple jump. Chance Johnson and Caleb Maughan each earned a fourth place in the discus and high jump respectively.

On the Girls side, Klaire Kovatch won the disk with a throw of 117 feet 5 inches while Kara Good threw her personal best 98 feet for fourth place.

Terra Bertsch had to settle for tying for first in the pole vault clearing 9 feet 6 inches. In similar fashion she tied in the high jump clearing 4 feet 10 inches.

Hannah Ayers scored a pair of second places in the 400 with a time of 1:09.96 and in the 1600-meter with her personal best of 5:52.13 minutes.

Lily Mercer earned a second place in the 100 with a time of 13.50 second and took fourth in the 200-meter.

Aspen Conley was right behind Mercer in the 200 with her personal best time of 28.87 seconds. She also took fourth in the 400-meter.

Bethany Hoag earned a third place in the 800-meter while Bertsch took sixth in the 100-meter hurdles.

The Girls 4x100 relay took second in another photo finish race just two hundredths of a second behind Charlo. The 4x400 relay team took fifth.

This week the team hosts the Seeley-Swan Invitational April 20 at Missoula County Public Schools Stadium.
