SEELEY LAKE - After a six-year hiatus, Alpine Artisans is reviving one of our most popular events – the unique Loon and Fish Festival. Held once again on Memorial Day weekend May 25 and May 26, the focus of this two-day festival is a group art display featuring the artwork of over 25 local artists of the Seeley, Swan and Blackfoot Valleys.
These valleys are home to dozens of exceptional artists and the Loon and Fish Festival is an opportunity to view and buy their work in this fabulous group show. The artwork includes pottery, watercolors, wooden bowls, jewelry, handmade lamps, woodworking, weaving, photography, oils, sculpture, fiber art, origami, stained glass and more.
The popular Food Bank Soup Bowl Lunch is back as well. Two local ceramic artists are collaborating to create over 100 handmade bowls for the Food Bank Soup Bowl lunch, held Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m.
Bob Korn’s contribution of 100+ bowls in past years has made this fundraiser possible, and has added up to over $32,000 in donations to the Seeley Lake Food Bank over those years. Korn is joined this year by Seeley Lake’s Obsession Pottery who is creating another 50 bowls. Both Obsession Pottery owner Carrie Darrah and Bob Korn are working with many additional volunteers to glaze and decorate the bowls.
Two or three artists will be demonstrating the process of their work each day, including demonstrations of beadwork, watercolor, woodworking, painting on fabric and a quick draw event.
Raffle tickets will be sold to support AAI’s Youth Arts Grant and Arts Scholarship program. Raffle prizes include an 11-foot inflatable paddleboard, a dump truck full of quality topsoil and a Japanese-lantern style walnut lamp, each prize valued at more than $400. Raffle drawing will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Festival, though one need not be present to win.
The Festival is “a celebration of art and nature” and will include a Loon Walk and a Loon Talk from the Montana Loon Society and a wildflower walk to Holland Falls. Visitors will enjoy live music and an ambitious bake sale.
