The Secret Garden came to life at Seeley Lake Elementary with this crew acting lead parts. Hattie Batchelder acts the role of spoiled, bad tempered and newly orphaned Mary Lennox as MCT Tour Actor/Director Chance Carter in the role of Detective Del, escorts her to her new home to live with an uncle she has never met.
The squirrels, robin, foxes, crow and lambs do their part to cheer Mary and convince her that "life will find a way."
Dickon Sowerby (Cadence Mauldin) tries to entice Mary (Hattie Batchelder) to find joy in the fireflies, lambs and even the garden soil.
Eager to spread her new-found love of life, Mary convinces her uncle's son Colin (Michael Allen), treated as an invalid from birth, to come to the secret garden.
The crow, robin, Dickon Sowerby, Mary and a lamb finish up one of the songs performed throughout the play to the piano accompaniment of Sandra Abbott. The songs help convince Mary to "celebrate life" and "care for the land and it will care for you." As she learns to enjoy life, she becomes healthier and happier.
Uncle Archibald (Grace Wilson) and Doctor Craven (Connor Davis) are astounded as they enter the secret garden where, thanks to Mary, Ben and other garden helpers, the once barren soil has been transformed into a virtual paradise of flowers, vegetables and fruit-bearing trees.
SEELEY LAKE – Proud parents, friends and siblings, some carrying flowers, entered the Seeley Lake Elementary gym Friday, March 8. The flowers were in anticipation of congratulating a favorite budding actor or actress on his or her acting debut. With the help of scripts, props, costumes and lots of guidance and direction from Chance Carter and Staci Weider from Missoula Children's Theater, SLE students presented a stage adaptation of Frances Hodson Burnett's childhood classic, "The Secret Garden."
