Community invited to join MCPS superintendent search

SEELEY LAKE - Missoula County Public Schools Superintendent Mark Thane is also retiring at the end of the school year. MCPS Board of Trustees with the support of Ray and Associates, Inc. is conducting a search for the new superintendent. The consultant group is gathering critical information for the selection of the new leader for MCPS.

The community is invited to share their thoughts, ideas and opinions about what they want in the next MCPS superintendent during a Parent and Community Focus group meeting March 12 at 5:30 p.m. at SSHS. Those that cannot attend the meeting are invited to complete a short online survey by March 12.

Seeley Lake Library news

     SEELEY LAKE - All are invited to join in a discussion of “Great Tales and Poems of Edgar Allen Poe” at the Seeley Lake Library Wednesday, March 20 at 11 a.m. Poe’s melancholy and passionate lyricism are displayed in this collection which includes stories and poems like the “Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Raven.” Books are available at the checkout desk. For more information call 677-8995.

    The Seeley Lake Library is a branch of Missoula Public Library located at Seeley-Swan High School. The library is open to the public Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Missoula County Commissioners seeking applicants for Tax Appeal Board

MISSOULA - Missoula County Commissioners are looking to fill one three-year term on the county Tax Appeal Board. The new term begins April 1, 2019 and runs through March 31, 2022.

 The Tax Appeal Board is comprised of five members who meet to hear taxpayer appeals of property tax assessments and attend meetings called by the state’s tax appeal board. The county Tax Appeal Board is in session July 1 through Dec. 31 of the current tax year to hear protests concerning assessments made by the state Department of Revenue. The board meets until all protests have been considered and, as provided in MCA 15-2-201, may meet after Dec. 31, if necessary.

 Applications are available at https://www.missoulacounty.us/community/volunteer or in the Commissioners’ Office, located at 199 W. Pine St. in Missoula. Submissions may be filed electronically or emailed to sbell@missoulacounty.us. The deadline to submit applications is March 31. Applicants must be Missoula County residents.

Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame seeks nominations for Class of 2019

The Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame & Western Heritage Center (MCHF & WHC) is seeking nominations for the 2019 Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame induction round. Every year, the MCHF & WHC honors living and historical figures that have made notable contributions to Montana’s western heritage.

“We invite people from across Montana to identify those in their communities who are most deserving of inclusion in the hall of fame,” said Bill Galt, MCHF & WHC board president. “Nominations are open and welcome from the public at large.”

2019 marks the ninth year the MCHF & WHC will honor living inductees and the twelfth year of honoring legacy (non-living) inductees. The MCHF & WHC Board of Trustees will cast votes to select living and legacy inductees from each of the MCHF & WHC’s 12 Trustee Districts based on nominations from the public.

Nominees can be men, women, ranches, stagecoach lines, animals, hotels, etc.—anyone or anything that has made a notable contribution to our Montana western heritage. A full listing of inductees from 2011-2018, the 2019 Nomination Instructions, and more about the Hall of Fame induction process can be found online at http://www.montanacowboyfame.org.

If you would like to make a nomination, you must contact the MCHF & WHC at Christy@montanacowboyfame.org or by calling (406) 653-3800 prior to the submission deadline to express your intent to nominate. Nominations must include a cover page, a two-page biography and a high-quality photograph. All nomination documents must be in electronic format and emailed by May 31, 2019.

The 2019 Class of the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame will be announced by press release by September 15, 2019. Winning inductees will be honored at the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Western Heritage Gathering Feb. 8, 2020, at the Heritage Inn in Great Falls, Mont.
