Ladies take District 13C Title

FRENCHTOWN - The Lady Blackhawks defeated the Darby Tigers for the District 13C Title Feb. 16. On their way to the top the Ladies got a bye in the first round and then defeated the Lincoln Lynx in the semifinal.

The championship game started out in true Lady Blackhawks fashion as they poured in the baskets and left the Tigers to eating scraps. By the end of the first buzzer the Lady Blackhawks were up 15-4.

The Tigers soon began to demand a bigger piece of the pie. The teams went nearly point for point for most of the second and third quarter with the Lady Blackhawks holding a comfortable lead.

In the closing minutes of the third quarter the Tigers made their move closing in to within two baskets of the Lady Blackhawks, setting up a tense fourth quarter. The Lady Blackhawks held the Tigers off to the final score of 42-34.

Lily Mercer and Terra Bertsch led the Ladies with 8 points each. The Lady Blackhawks' only three pointer came from Autumn Morse who scored 7 in the game.

The Lady Blackhawks were off from the free throw line hitting just 7 of 21 attempted. Their saving grace was that the Tiger's struggled from the free throw line too, hitting only 8 of 24.

Also scoring: Kara Good 4, Ashley Miller 4, Sariah Maughan 4, Lauryn Barnes 4 and Jory Towe 3.

In the semifinal, Bertsch had 11 points to lead the Lady Blackhawks in the 37-33 victory over the Lynx. The Ladies had a better free throw average hitting 7 of 12.

Also scoring: Mercer 5, Morse 4, Bethany Hoag 4, Towe 4, Miller 2, Good 2, Aspen Conley 2, Kinley Moore 2 and Maughan 1.

The Lady Blackhawks face West Yellowstone in the opening round of the Western C Divisional tournament in Butte Feb. 21 at 12 p.m.
