Council to look at wildfire, water supply

The next meeting of the Seeley Lake Community Council promises a full agenda. The first half of the meeting will be devoted to wildfire smoke and its consequences.

Christopher T. Migliaccio, Research Assistant Professor at UM, has been studying the health effects of smoke on a group in Seeley Lake following the Rice Ridge fire of 2017. His team collected data in the fall of 2017 and then twice in 2018 for follow-up assessments. They studied local residents for lung function, blood pressure, heart rate, behavioral/depression and respiratory infections. They are planning to present their data on the lung function results and then answer any questions that people may have about the results and the study itself.

Following Migliaccio’s presentation will be Max Rebholz, Wildfire Preparedness Coordinator for Missoula County. Rebholz wants to introduce himself to the Seeley community and talk about some of the programs and events that are occurring throughout the county.

Next on the agenda will be Vince Chappell, Seeley Lake Water District Manager, who will talk about the water supply situation in Seeley Lake.

The presentations will end with Quinn Carver, Acting Seeley Lake Forest Service Ranger, who will give an update on recent Forest Service activities.

Like always, there will be an opportunity for public comments on non-agenda items.

The informal part of the meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. next Monday, Feb. 11, at the Seeley Lake Historical Museum and Visitors Center, 2920 Highway 83, with pizza and water. The formal meeting begins at 6 p.m.
